TWO MORE ADDED FOR
MADSEN’S BIG NIGHT
TWO more names have been added to
Tom P. Madsen’s Testimonial line-up at King’s Lynn in March.
Travis McGowan and Jan Graversen are the latest riders to confirm their
presence for the event at the Norfolk Arena on Friday, March 20.
Madsen has confirmed that plans for his big night are going well and is
pleased to have the latest duo on board.
He said: “I’m delighted that Travis and Jan have agreed to turn out for
me. Everything is coming together nicely and we're making good progress
with all aspects of the meeting.
“I’ve known Travis since we both rode at King's Lynn in 2000 and we’ve
become very good friends since then. He’s a great guy and is now one of
my best friends.
“He’s also a very exciting and popular rider and his inclusion in the
meeting should add to the spectacle of it all.
“I was also very pleased that Jan has accepted the booking.
“He’s a good young improving Danish rider and what with him now having
joined King’s Lynn for the forthcoming season, it will help create
plenty of interest from the local fans on the night.”
Meanwhile, Madsen has accepted an invitation to attend the Speedway and
Grasstrack Show on February 22, at The Sports Connexion,
Ryton-On-Dunsmore, Coventry. The Dane will be on hand to answer
questions on the day and also plans to have a range of Testimonial
merchandise available to view and buy.

IS PHIL SMARTER THAN A
10-YEAR-OLD?
SPEEDWAY star Phil Morris'
appearance on the SKY One TV quiz show ‘Are You Smarter Than a
10-Year-Old?’, is to be aired this Friday, January 16, at 5.00pm.
The popular Welshman has appeared on a number of TV quiz shows over the
last 18 months and although we are sworn to secrecy over how he gets on,
we can reveal his stay rolls over to the following episode on Monday
January 19.
The format of the show hosted by Dick and Dom, sees the contestant asked
a maximum of eleven questions, spanning ten subjects (such as History,
Maths or Science) taken from textbooks for 6 to 10-year-old students.
Each question is associated with an age level; there are two questions
per age group, from 6 to 10. The player can answer the questions in any
order, and
each correct answer raises their cumulative amount of winnings to the
next level. There is a safe point after 5 correct answers, guaranteeing
the player the value of the fifth question, and after ten questions
players may take a jackpot question for the top prize (£50,000).
Contestants can be assisted by a ‘classmate’, one of five school-age
cast embers, in answering the questions. The classmate, chosen for two
questions at a time, attempts to answer the question at the same time as
the contestant, writing their answer on a virtual blackboard hidden from
the contestant's view. The contestant will have three forms of
assistance from the classmate (two cheats and a save) each available for
use once per game.
Once all three forms of assistance are used, the children no longer play
an active role in the game.
Each contestant has a friend in the audience who is there for
moral support and encouragement. Paul Hunsdon a familiar face
to those who have watched speedway at Reading in recent seasons where he
was the Centre Green Presenter, is the man in Morris' corner.

“I’m very pleased that Kevin Long from Ipswich has agreed to do my
meeting, and also Reading’s Paul Hunsdon will be adding his style of
humour to proceedings.”

TOM P GETS TESTIMONIAL DATE
TOM P Madsen is set to stage his Testimonial meeting at King’s Lynn on
Friday, March 20.
The Dane, who has just recently agreed a loan deal with Stoke
for the 2009 season, will be celebrating ten-years in British Speedway.
The 31-year-old first arrived on these shores to ride for Berwick in
1999 and has since raced for a variety of clubs, which include Ipswich,
Oxford, Belle Vue, Mildenhall and Reading.
During this time he has proved himself to be a reliable and
popular team-man for all his teams, but will be going back to
King’s Lynn to stage his big event, where he spent several enjoyable
seasons racing between 2000-2004.
Madsen said: “It seems like only yesterday that I first came over
to Britain to ride and here we are ten years later thinking
about organising a Testimonial.
“I’ve really enjoyed my time here and have always given my British clubs
number one priority.
“I now live permanently just a few minutes away from the King’s Lynn
track, so I suppose it’s quite fitting that I should be staging my
meeting there. I always enjoyed riding at the Norfolk Arena track and I
still have a lot of sponsors in the area.
“I’d like to thank the Stars promotion for giving me the opportunity to
stage it there. Buster Chapman (King’s Lynn promoter) has always been a
massive assistance since I first came to ride over here. He’s been like
my English dad; helping me get set-up off-track and generally looking
after me.
“Now that I’ve got a date and venue confirmed I’ll be focusing
all my energies on my meeting. I’m determined to put on a good show for
the supporters.
“I have a few things in mind as to what I’d like to do on the night and
what riders will be invited.
“In fact, my former Reading team-mate Ulrich Ostergaard has already
agreed to ride, plus one former and another current Grand Prix rider
have also accepted invitations.
“I’m very pleased with how things have gone so far and it
promises to be a very good night.”
Further news updates will be issued in due course.
