OPENING FIXTURE ANNOUNCED

STOKE Easy Rider Potters will launch what they hope will be an exciting season when they take on Birmingham in the M6 Trophy.

The Potters who won the trophy last season will travel to the West Midlands on Wednesday March 17th for the first leg with the second leg opening the Potters home season on Saturday March 20th.

Birmingham have revamped their line up with only skipper Jason Lyons and Richard Sweetman remaining from last seasons septet. Veteran Aussie Steve Johnston has joined the Brummies from Somerset along with Justin Sedgmen who has also made the switch from the Rebels. American Chris Kerr has also joined the West Midlands outfit after spending last season riding for Redcar and Wolverhampton where he gained an Elite League winners medal with parent club Wolverhampton. Aaron Summers as been added to the Birmingham line up after making the switch from Edinburgh while Jake Anderson makes his British debut to make it six Australian’s in the Brummies line up.

Promoter Dave Tattum said “It will be a good test for us as Birmingham look to have put together a decent line up and I expect them to be up there challenging for honours at the end of the season. We will be looking to start our season off with a victory over them though and retain the trophy we won last year and hopefully we will this year be able to add more trophies to it by the end of the season.”

KLAUS JOINS THE PANTHERS

STOKE Easy Rider Potters rider Klaus Jakobsen will double up with Sky Sports Elite League Peterborough for the 2010 campaign.

Jakobsen who returns for a third season with the Potters links up with former Coventry team boss Peter Oakes who took the Dane to Coventry as the Bees’ number eight last season.

The 20 year old Dane said “It’s a big season for me and my last at under-21 level and I need to make sure this season works. I have spent a lot of money on machinery and getting things right for this season and I’m going out to fight for everything this season and show everyone what I can do.”

PICKERS VOTED THE RIDER OF THE DECADE.

STOKE Easy Rider Potters supporters have voted former skipper Paul Pickering as their rider of the last decade.

Pickering who suffered career threatening arm injuries back in April 2005 skippered the Potters for several years and represented the club in the Premier League riders championship where he finished in third place back in 2000 after finishing joint top scorer in the qualifying heats and the Premier League pairs where he finished runner up with Alan Mogridge at Reading’s Smallmead circuit in 2004 and runner up in the Premier League fours at Workington also in 2004.

Stoke promoter Dave Tattum said “Paul was a top rider when he was with Stoke and was a credit to the club both on and off the track and he’s obviously been remembered fondly by the Stoke supporters for all his efforts. He had numerous successes here at Stoke and will always be remembered going around the safety fence with Jan Staechmann and Alan Mogridge to gain us some superb victories and we all have happy memories of him being with us in the Potteries.”

Pickering finished ahead of Jan Staechmann and Alan Mogridge who finished in joint second place and Ben Barker who finished fourth.

WELCOME BACK KLAUS

STOKE Easy Rider Potters have completed their 2010 line up with the return of Dane Klaus Jakobsen for a third season.

Jakobsen finished last season with a 5.35 average and gets the nod ahead of fellow Dane Jesper Kristiansen.

Promoter Dave Tattum said “It’s been a very hard decision as both Klaus and Jesper are Stoke assets but I’ve made the decision and am pleased with the team that we’ve put together. I feel all the riders have potential to improve, they also have hunger and ambition, and they all want to be successful for this club in the new campaign which starts at Loomer Road on Saturday 20 March.

I’ll of course do everything possible to get Jesper fixed up with another club and have circulated his name as being available. I’m looking forward to the new season and can’t wait for the start of the season to come around I really do feel we have an exciting team that will provide some superb entertainment for the supporters and hopefully see the club pushing for some success on the track I’ve not felt this excited for quite some time.”

Jakobsen is one of only two riders to return from last season’s squad as he joins new skipper Jason Bunyan who returns for a second season in the new line up, after Tattum wielded the axe seeing last season’s skipper Lee Complin. Tom P Madsen, Craig Branney, Robert Ksiezak and Jesper Kristiansen through the exit door, with Michal Rajkowski, Hynek Stichauer, Ricky Wells, James Holder and Taylor Poole coming into the club.
