POTTERS APPOINT VASEY

STOKE Easy Rider Potters have appointed Malcolm Vasey as their new team manager for the 2010 campaign.

Vasey who has a vast knowledge of the sport having been co-chairman of the Boston Barracudas and team manager of Mildenhall, Boston and more recently the Scunthorpe Saints replaces John Woolridge as the Potters boss after Woolridge had to step down due to ill health.

Stoke promoter Dave Tattum said “Malcolm has a vast amount of knowledge in the sport having been around in various capacities for a long time and I’m confident he will do a good job for us. He is enthusiastic, flamboyant, knows the rulebook inside out and wants to win and I’m sure he will go down well with the supporters.”

Vasey leaves his job as Scunthorpe Saints team manager with immediate affect and meets his new charges when the Potters hold their press and practice day on Wednesday 10th March.

JB RETAINS TITLE IN NZ.

A large crowd saw Stoke Easy Rider Potters skipper Jason Bunyan successfully retain his New Zealand Championship crown at Oreti Park raceway on Saturday night.

Representing Rosebank Road Speedway the Potters number one took the title ahead of Newport youngster Greg Tregoning who he beat in the opening heat of the night which proved to be the title decider as both riders remained unbeaten through the rest of the evening.

Third place went to veteran racer Larry Ross while 15-year old Anthony Knowles took fourth place after he was given special dispensation to race in the national fixture with many people comparing him with the legendary New Zealand rider and six times World Champion Ivan Mauger.

NO RACING YET BUT PLENTY OF WORK BEING DONE

Despite the recent poor weather stopping any work on the track, the past couple of weeks have seen a lot of activity down at Loomer Road off the track. The dog track covers, the tyres and all the various associated electrical fittings have gone from in front of the main stand to give the whole area a much cleaner look. The old metal frame holding the finish line lights has gone along with the big power box.

Lifting the dirt close to the speedway fence has allowed access to the drainage system that runs close to the edge of the track. Opening up this gully will improve the drainage and help water run away as it is now blow the level of the track. Once the whole area is levelled off and has dried up, spectators will notice a big difference and it will certainly make the area look a whole lot better.

PRESS AND PRACTICE DATE ANNOUNCED

STOKE Easy Rider Potters will hold their press and practice day on Wednesday 10 March at 1pm.

The Potters will also hold a forum at the stadium in the evening which will start at 8pm sharp so supporters are asked to arrive early in order to start proceedings on time.

Promoter Dave Tattum said “I thought it would be a good idea to have press and practice on the same day as the forum so we could have a full day of activity and since we are facing Birmingham a week later at Perry Barr we have gone for the 10th and are hoping for a successful day.”

Supporters should note that they will NOT be admitted to the stadium prior to 1pm.
