Birmingham
Brummies
in the
Premier
League
at Perry
Barr
last
night.
The
Potters
went
behind
in heat
one as
Aaron
Summers
and
Jason
Lyons
took a
4-2 in
the
opening
heat
over Lee
Smart
and
Claus
Vissing.
The
Potters
struck
back in
heat
three as
Taylor
Poole
and
guest
Benji
Compton
level
the
scores
with a
4-2 over
Richard
Sweetman
and
Justin
Sedgmen.
The
Brummies
were
back in
front a
heat
later as
veteran
Steve
Johnston
gained
victory
over Jan
Graversen
who
managed
to hold
Kyle
Newman
at bay
as the
Potters
trail
13-11
after
four
heats.
Jan
Graversen
makes a
good
start in
heat six
but
Brummies
pairing
Summers
and
Lyons go
either
side the
Potter
down the
back
straight
to take
maximum
points
and
extend
their
lead
Wells
taking
Graversen
for
third
place as
Birmingham
lead
21-15
after
six
heats,
the
Brummies
then
take a
4-2 in
seven to
extend
their
lead
with
Poole
splitting
the
Birmingham
pairing.
The
Potters
looked
to
reduce
the
deficit
in heat
eight as
Vissing
led for
three
laps
before
locking
up on
the
second
turn of
the
final
lap
allowing
Summers
to take
victory
for a
drawn
heat as
the
Brummies
lead
28-20
after
right
heats.
Stoke
fall
further
behind
as
Richard
Sweetman
and
Sedgmen
gain
maximum
points
over
Smart
and
Graversen,
Sedgmen
managing
to
overhaul
Smart on
the
third
lap to
extend
the
Brummies
lead to
twelve
points.
Lyons
and
Summers
extended
Birmingham’s
lead to
sixteen
points
as they
take a
comfortable
5-1 over
Compton
and
Poole to
give the
Brummies
a 38-22
lead
after
ten
heats.
Vissing
comes in
as a
tactical
ride in
heat
eleven
as
Potters
boss
Malcolm
Vasey
looks to
peg back
the
Brummies.
Veteran
Aussie
Johnston
takes
the
chequered
flag
ahead of
Vissing
with
Smart
taking
third
for a
Potters
5-3 heat
advantage
reducing
the
deficit
to
fourteen
points.
Smart
took a
tactical
ride in
heat
twelve
but the
move
failed
as
Birmingham
gained
maximum
points
with
Clews
and
Sedgmen
taking a
comfortable
win
Smart
suffering
engine
problems
allowing
Compton
to take
third.
The
Brummies
completed
a
comfortable
victory
taking a
4-2 with
Johnston
and
Lyons
over
Vissing
in heat
thirteen
and then
in heat
fifteen
as
Summers
and
Johnston
both
completed
maximums
to take
a 58-34
victory
over the
Potters
to take
the
Brummies
back to
the top
of the
Premier
League
table.
Potters
promoter
Dave
Tattum
said
“I’m
disappointed
with
tonight’s
result I
had
expected
better
from
certain
riders
and they
know who
they
are. We
stuck
with
them in
the
early
stages
but they
pulled
away in
the
second
half of
the
meeting
and that
seems to
be the
story of
our
season
and it
has to
change”.
