CYRIL CHELL

Firstly Cyril, can I issue a thank you on behalf of all Stoke Potters fans
for your continued support for our club over the last decade.

PS. Hi Cyril, did you ever think you would be sponsoring Stoke Potters
for as long as you have?

 CC. No.

PS. How did your involvement here begin? Is it true it was all set up in
a Supermarket Café?

CC. It all began with a meeting between Dave and myself in naturally the best of places…Morrisons Café. I bought the drinks!!!!

PS. You have sponsored many other motorcyclists over the years, what
fields have you been involved in?

CC. I’ve been involved in all sorts of racing over the years, Motor X, Stunt, Enduro and both solo and side car road racing.

PS. Any notable names?

CC. Dick Grealey, Frank Rutter, Mick Tomkinson and Eddie Kid.

PS. Has your sponsorship brought you success?

CC. Business wise no, it rarely does, but in sporting terms there has been World Runners-up in side car, 2 British Champs, 3 TT wins, 1 solo TT and many records.

PS. Have you always had such a strong passion for motorcycle sports?

CC. Ha ha, daft question but yes!

PS. Why do you think Stoke Potters do not seem to achieve much on track?

CC. Well I think this is a question that requires wider discussion.

PS. Do you think if the track was altered in some capacity at Loomer it
would give the team more advantage?

CC. Yes definitely. The track and the whole set up plays a part in home advantage. Over latter years the ground staff have been playing a bigger part in the overall team performance.

PS.  Do you ever see silverware coming to Loomer rd?

CC. It’s fair to say that if I didn’t think we could achieve success then I wouldn’t be sponsoring the Potters. As you have seen above, I am used to winning.

PS. Who have been your favourite Potters to watch since you became
sponsor?

CC. In no order, Jan Staechmann, Paul Pickering, Garry Stead, Glenn Cunningham, Lee Complin pre-crash and of course Jason Bunyan and Ben Barker.

PS. Do you see yourself being the sponsor for the foreseeable future?

CC. Well so far that’s until the end of the 2010 season but thereafter is already in discussion.

PS. Did you follow speedway before becoming involved at Stoke?

CC. A little yes at Sun Street, on the TV and here at Loomer but my other involvement used up all of my time in those days.

PS. For the people who do not know, who is/what is Eazy Rider?

CC. Easy-Rider is an importing/distribution company of motorcycles, equipment and spares. Easy-Rider is also a large, local supplier of garden machinery to the public.

PS. Who’s been your favourite speedway rider of all time?

CC. That will be Leigh Adams.

PS. If you could change the sport in anyway what would it be?

CC. We’d best pass on that one or we would be here for a very, very long time.

PS. Finally Cyril any message to the fans in readiness for 2010??

CC. Yes, certainly, let’s give this new look team time to gel. Give them positives and this could be a very interesting season.
Let’s also focus on a good old sporting Psychology – let’s climb the mountain to get to the top, making hard choices and taking chances on the way rather than staying in the valley where it is safe and cosy.
But most of all, all of us, as a club and a group, stay together and stay positive.

With thanks to Cyril Chell PS. PP. 14/01/10
