TIM NUNAN

PS. Hi Tim, how are you and what are
you up to in 2009?
TN.
Doing fine in 09. Still growing wine grapes on our property near Mildura.
Still
married to Suellen, with 2 boys James & Andrew aged 22 & 23
PS. How did your move to Stoke come
about in 1976?
TN. In
'76 I was staying in Bristol with Phil Crump when I heard Stoke were
putting together a team.
So I
went up to try out and was fortunate enough to be given a team spot.
PS. What are your memories of Crazy
Jack Millen?
TN.
Crazy Jack was certainly that. Jack helped me a lot when I first went to
Stoke and we became good friends.
Some
of the memories probably can't be put into print but he was a good
bloke, fairly wild but we got along just fine.
It was
shattering when he died in '78.
PS. How did you find Mike Parker?
TN.
Didn't have a lot to do with Mike Parker. Mainly dealt with Chris
Harrison who I found to be a decent person to deal with.
PS. What do you recall of the Stoke
track?
TN.
Stoke track was a good but fairly easy track with big corners and a
great surface.
It was
outside the dog track then and when prepared well it was fairly fast, I
think.
PS. What do you recall from your best
season as a Potter in 1977, even though the team finished with the
wooden spoon?
TN.
Don't remember a lot of specifics but enjoyed the whole time I was in
the UK.
PS. Why did you not return in 1979?
TN.
Personal reasons. I really had to weigh up whether or not I had a future
in riding bikes and realized there were more opportunities
for
the future if I took over the family farm.
It has
proven to be the right decision, we've expanded quite a bit and the wine
grapes are going well. So drink more
Aussie Wine.
PS. What was your favourite English
track?
TN.
STOKE by a mile
PS. Where did you live when you rode
for Stoke?
TN. I
lived locally in Dimsdale Parade near Stan Clewlow's motorcycle shop and
then in Clare Avenue.
PS. Do you still keep in touch with
the sport?
TN.
Yeah a bit, I keep up how Jason Crump and Leigh Adams are going and get
to a few meetings in Mildura.
PS. What year did you retire from
speedway?
TN.
Retired in 1981
PS. What is your favourite memory
from Stoke speedway?
TN.
The people. Stoke supporters were fantastic and that is the one thing I
miss most of all.
They
were friendly, generous and made me feel quite at home.
I do
hope to get back over to the UK in the next year or so.
PS. Any regrets from your career?
TN. No regrets,
had many memorable times, met a lot of good people, so no, no regrets at
all.
Cheers Tim
PS, PP 4/8/09.
