PS. Hi Glenn
how are you and what are you doing these days?
GC.
I am busy working in the family business, we own
a couple of residential park home sites so there is always stuff
that need to be done! When I'm not working, I'm looking after my
son Alfie who is nearly 2 so between them both I'm very busy!
PS.
How is the leg?
GC.
The leg is pretty good for every day life,
unfortunately I will have the metal work in my leg for the rest
of my life as the surgeon doesn't think it will be strong enough
without it
PS.
Have you got full mobility back in your leg?
GC.
Pretty much yes, i've not got quite the same
movement I used to have and I do suffer from aches and pains but
all in all considering the injury I had, I feel quite lucky that
I don't have major problems with it.
PS. Will we
ever see you on a bike again or has the Doc said no?
GC.
The surgeon has strongly advised that I don't
ride again because if I was to crash again with the metal work
in, it could end in non repairable damage that I don't want to
even think about. Deep down I don't think I could competitively
race with that in the back of my mind.
PS.
How did you find your time as a Stoke Potter?
GC.
I really enjoyed my time with Stoke. I have
always been made to feel very welcome at Stoke, including the
fair amount of guest bookings I did before I even became a
potter.
PS.
If you had’nt have got your injury, do you think you’d have been
back at Stoke in 2008?
GC.
There was a good chance I would have been. Dave
Tattum always kept in contact as to how the leg was coming along
because at the time, I thought there was a possibility I may
have been fit in time for the 2008 season. How wrong I was!
PS.
How did you find Stoke track?
GC.
I have done a lot of racing at Stoke over the
years and it has always been a place I have enjoyed coming to.
To me Stoke is a "proper" speedway track with plenty of racing
lines.
PS.
How did coming to Stoke for yourself happen?
GC.
Well like I said earlier, I had done a lot of
guest bookings for Stoke in previous years so Dave knew I liked
the place. Dave was ready to make a few team changes in April
2007 and because my average didn't fit in the Somerset team that
year, I slotted straight into the new Stoke line up.
PS.
What was your best season is Speedway?
GC.
1998 - I was at Peterborough in the Premier
League and ended up winning the Fours, the Pairs, the League and
also the Premier League Riders Championship. I also had a couple
of full England caps where I rode in test matches against
Australia. I was 3rd in the Overseas Final at Poole which
qualified me to go to the Intercontinental Final which was
held at Vojens in Denmark.
PS. Would you
like to stay involved in the sport in some capacity?
GC.
If the right opportunity came up there is a
possibility I would stay involved.
PS.
Do you stay in touch with any of your ex team mates?
GC.
I catch up with them now and again, I recently
went to Mark Lemon's testimonial and caught up with a
lot of the boys there.
PS.
What's your favourite moment from your season as a Potter?
GC.
Well success wise unfortunately we didn't have
much that season but for me generally after being at Somerset
for 5 years, it was a welcome change and I was really enjoying
being a potter.
PS.
Who was your favourite rider?
GC.
My favourite rider is Jason Crump, he's a true
racer and battler. Even when he is a bit down on power, he never
gives up, and he's also a nice guy to go with it.
PS. Who was
your toughest opponent?
GC.
That's a tough one. There has been so many tough
opponents over the years, it's hard to single out any one rider.
PS. Finally
Glenn, any message to the Stoke fans who will be reading this?
GC.
I really enjoyed my time at Stoke and it is just
a shame my career ended in the way it did. The supporters were
great to me and a group of them even did a sponsored walk to
raise money for me and Lee Complin who were both injured at the
time, thanks again guys.
