LEIGH ADAMS

Swindon Speedway launch 2009

(Apologies to one and all, especially to Leigh for the lateness of this article, Shiff)

PS. Welcome to Potterspower.com Leigh, how is the GP series for 2009 shaping up for yourself?

LA. Not good, it hasn’t shaped up as I wanted it to.  My start in Prague was what I was after, but since then had two bad GP’s.  Looking forward to the two indoor events to get the ball rolling again.

PS. You rode for Stoke in Jan Staechmann’s testimonial, how did you find the Stoke track?

LA. Vaguely remember....it was quite slick and a very narrow racing line.  Other than that it was a good track.

PS. Do you have bikes just for league racing and have separate ones for GP’s?

LA.  Yes – two bikes based in the UK and three that go in the motorhome for GP’s.

PS. You are perhaps the biggest name left racing in British racing, what are your thoughts about the state of British speedway?

LA. It’s a shame the top guys have pulled out.  It adds spice, but I think with the television coverage and the way the league’s shaping up this year, I don’t think we’ve missed them.

PS. Why do you think that you have never become World Champion yet?

LA. Still trying to work that one out...!!

PS. What has been your happiest time in speedway, so far?

LA. Couldn’t pinpoint one – winning GP’s and various leagues with my clubs.  As a rider you’re always racing to win and it’s what makes you happy.

PS. How long do you see yourself riding for?

LA. Don’t know, I’m just taking it year by year.

PS. You are the highest scoring Swindon rider ever, do you think that will ever be surpassed?

LA. Records are there to be broken!

PS. How many bikes have you got in total?

LA. Nine – two in Poland, two in England, three for GP/Sweden and two in Australia.

PS.  Will you return to Australia permanent when you decide to hang up the kevlars?

LA. Yes.

PS.  Who do you see as the next big Aussie sensation?

LA. Darcy Ward seems to be the one setting the world alight at the moment.

P.S. Who is your favourite rider of all time?

Tony Rickardsson.

PS.  Do you think there will ever be another GP in Australia?

LA. Yes, I think probably one day.

PS. What is your favourite track?

LA. Swindon.

PS. What is the value of a GP prepared speedway machine?

LA. £10k

With thanks to Leigh Adams
